In my previous blog posts about how to create a self-installing exe with 7zip SFX Maker and how to create a gui exe for bundles with 7zip SFX maker, I’ve shown how easy it is to create simple but effective installers with this tool.
However, to customize further things, for example icons, 7Zip SFX Maker needs the Resource Hacker tool.
Resource Hacker is a popular resource editor for 32 and 64 bit Windows applications and it’s both a resource compiler and decompiler.
Unfortunately, even if you have Resource Hacker installed on your machine, when you open up 7Zip SFX Maker you receive an error that Resource Hacker was not found.
So how do you fix this?
First, if you don’t have Resource Hacker on your machine, download the zip file from here.
Then, from the zip file, copy ResourceHacker.exe to the 7Zip SFX Maker installation folder\Resources, for example C:\Program Files (x86)\7-Zip SFX Maker\Resources.
In that location (C:\Program Files (x86)\7-Zip SFX Maker\Resources) rename ResourceHacker.exe to ResHacker.exe
Your Resources folder should look like this
Now, when you open up 7Zip SFX Maker, the error should be gone and you can fully edit your exe.
